Lysistrata was the fictional title character in a Greek comedy by Aristophanes. Originally performed in classical Athens in 411 BC, it is a comic account of a woman’s extraordinary mission to end the Peloponnesian War by denying all the men of the land any sex, which was the only thing they truly and deeply desired. Basically, Lysistrata was the first woman in classical literature to prove that women have most of the power in relationships with men. We just don’t often recognize or exercise that power.
I chose this name to symbolize reclaiming my own personal power in taking charge of my life and fulfilling my desire to make art at this late stage of life.
Speaking of making art, I have been making art in one form or another since I was old enough to hold a crayon (which was several decades ago). Sometimes it was drawing or painting, sometimes photography, or digital/3D art, or sculpture, or fiber, or jewelry making. But always, always, it has been art. My artistic tastes and talents have changed over the decades; I no longer feel chained to traditional media or imagery. I have moved beyond representational works and into abstract and practical themes. Much of what I will offer up here for sale will be works for decor or small, useful objects that nonetheless are aesthetically pleasing, despite their practicality (or perhaps, practical, despite their beauty). I hope you will enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed making them.
